ok so I've been stuck at high 900s mid 1000s for the last month. I started at 600 about 6- 5 months ago. I started playing Sicilian defense for white and the Dragon variation for black(not much luck). then I figured out that people were horrible against the kings gambit so I stuck with it til now, and play the Berlin defense for black. I also enjoy opening fianchetto with my dark square bishop openings because I saw people were weak against it, but I lose all those games (mostly I think). so do you let the bxnc6 then b7xbc6 or move a7- a6 protecting the N or bc8- bd7 blocking qdfile eying g5. I'm not afraid of moving a or h pawns

You say you play the Berlin against the Ruy. That's a fine way to play. Is there a specific game or position that was difficult for you? Here's how the Berlin begins:

All you really need to know about the openings you play is the first 5 or so moves (memorized) and then the general idea (and of course the opening principals) to guide you through the rest. Use a free online database to check (after every game you play) what the popular moves are and through repetition of having played a lot of games you'll eventually memorize the first 5 moves for most of your openings.

For the idea of the opening, maybe use wiki or even post games on this forum and ask for help.

That having been said, it's unlikely openings are your weakest area.
