How to reach class A

Recently, I've been studying a lot of tactics, Silman's Complete Endgame Course, and some other books. I know it would take a while, but what would be a good way to study to reach class A?

Thanks in advance.

The question about improving is too broad. There is no formula that says study X for Y hours and you'll achieve a rating of Z. The best way to get there is to get a coach who will show you what you need to study, etc.

have an impeccable interest in chess, to where you immerse yourself in study. I read books and study strictly because chess fascinates me, and I am really only feeding my interest.

http://chessskill.blogspot.com is my blog. There are about 950 posts dating as far back as November 2007. I made it to USCF A Class in May 2009. In June 2012, I was 1982. I've slipped back into the high 1800s a few times, then back over 1900, then down again. My blog tracks this progress, as well as offering bits of my materials that I use teaching youth who range from absolute beginners to solid C Class.

It might help someone trying to get to A Class to read about the study methods and playing experiences of someone who got there after nine years as an adult C Class player and another three years as a B Class player.

I respond to most comments on the blog, usually within 24 hours.

The classical answer to this question is a combination of study (mostly improve positional and endgame play) AND play a lot of LONG time control games against tougher opponents.  Coaching is a huge plus, always.

BUT that said, I will say this.  Chess is ART.  It really is.  Do not focus on the rating and the points so much.  As the great Bruce Lee once said..."Do not think, FEEL...it is like a finger pointing at the moon...if you look at the finger, you miss all that heavenly glory."

Sooo FEEL...feel the art of chess and be passionate with all your heart. And trust me, the points will come :)

Good luck to you, my friend!

For me it was shoring up my middlegame planning.  My coach worked with me on improving my middlegame planning, and how to see new things.

You might want to take an inventory. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Why do you win or lose games?

Then study to shore up your weaknesses and find ways to play to your strengths.

Most of all, keep at it!

You can see my rating.

So whatever I do.

Do the exact opposite!

Study tactics, go over master level games, study the endgame, and get your head bashed in by playing as many games as possible.

Excellent!  I like it!  Mine is http://www.chessiq.com/blog/

I am also Class A.  I started playing again in 2011 after a 19 year absense.  When I came back I was just under 1500.  Now I am 1851 with a peak rating of 1896.

My blog flits between showing games of my favorite players, annotating my own games, showing positions I found to be interesting during my own studies, and reviewing books/dvd's.
