I will be attending my first over the board tournament soon in the U1000 section. The time control is 90mins with +30s. I was wondering what kind of opening preparation should I have? I was thinking of learning King's Indian Defence for the Black pieces and variations of Queen's Gambit for the White pieces. To be honest I don't really know what to expect from my opponents and I am not sure if I can actually continue with Queen's Gambit if my opponent doesn't play 2...D5? I bought a few chessbooks
Modern Chess Openings
Silman's Complete Endgame Course
The Amateur's Mind
The Mammoth Book of The World's Greatest Chess Games
Honestly I'm just looking for any advice you would give to someone on how to prepare / what to expect at a first tournament.
