Friends of mine played chess while I was working and going to University. So I had an interest in it, but I had no time. I started seeing someone who was politically active, and he started becoming less active and more obsessed with chess. I was introduced to a game by Polgar and Shirov, and he explained it to me. I started reading chess books, had an accident which put me in bed for six months, and during that time played chess. Then I became hooked! So really it was a series of things that eventually did it.
how you are introduced to chess ?

I was originally taught as a child but quickly lost interest after I continually lost to my older brother who cheated (put extra pieces on when I wasn't looking. Damn cheater). I then rediscovered chess at school where we had a chess competition over a couple of weeks. My competitive spirit took over me I stopped schoolwork for those few weeks and studied chess non-stop. I became enthralled by the game and went on to win the tournament and gained an obsession of chess.

I got my first chess game as a 5 year old. My father kept mating me with the fools mate until I understood how to avoid it.
Until I was 30 years old I only played chess for fun. But then I moved to a new apartment and my neighbor was in a chess club and I joined.
I have been playing in a club for 3 years now.
Hello
I would like to hear how you were introduced to chess. I'm sure there are some great stories
For me , i was introduced to chess at school by my mathematic teacher in my 13-14 year. I continue to play with a book writed by Van Setter (belgium master) discribing each opening, how to attack or defend a position, how to play the endgames etc.. .I stop play few years but when I buy my first computer and the chessmaster program,I play again. And now, with internet,it's very interesting to play against player or talks like in forum or blogs.
