what kind of region are you in where your USCF is inflated that much?
i don't seriously believe you
@KirbyCake lol I play in one of the least inflated areas. DC metro area. I go to Baltimore and DC for tournaments. I don't think my rating OTB is inflated. I've played in some big and well-known open tournaments with hundreds of players: Atlantic Open, Eastern Open, Potomac Open, etc.
Go to USCF rating lookup and enter Dennis Norman. My OTB is 1811. 1670something for quick rating. No blitz history.
How about checking your facts before making offensive statements? Which also don't help answer my question, btw. And why would I possibly lie about my OTB rating? Look it up. I played this past weekend in the Baltimore Open U2100 section and got 2.5/5 against a bunch of >1900s. I deserve an 1800 OTB rating.
My OTB rating for U.S.C.F. is 1811. But somehow I can't maintain a blitz rating on here above 1500. Actually I often fall as far as the low 1400s or even high 1300s. It wouldn't bother me so much except that I waste a lot of my time playing blitz and I have a semi-addiction to it. It would be nice if I were actually good at the thing I can't stop doing. But no. What's the secret to being good at blitz? I am embarrassed of my blitz rating on here, to be honest. It is pretty unacceptable and I want to know how to improve at it. And please don't say improve at chess- I have improved at chess. At this time last year my OTB rating was around 1200. But my blitz rating has barely increased.
me too
NM title is my goal OTB. This blitz thing is just something I want to be a bit better at because I play it so much but still cannot break 1500 consistently, even 1400 is hard sometimes
I am 1650 OTB, but my bullet rating here is about 1250. It is comparing apples and oranges.
I suggest not worrying about it and and concentrate on your real goal, which is OTB NM....good luck!
I don't think chess.com blitz ratings are comparable to USCF ratings. I am about 400 points lower rated in blitz (and about 600 in bullet) than my OTB rating. Similar for my two stronger chessplayer friends who play here. One is about 2000 USCF and just under 1600 in chess.com blitz, the other is a candidate master in Croatia, probably at least 2200 USCF strength, and in the 1800s here. Also, looking at the top blitz games, I usually see NMs whose chess.com blitz rating is 1800-2000. So it seems your chess.com rating is pretty much on par with your USCF OTB rating.
The trick to being better at blitz is to start playing worse.
Level of play+ = Blitz rating -
Level of play - = Blitz +.
Follow this rules of online blitz, and you'll gain 300 points easy.

any legitimate 1800 USCF can easily get 1.8k+ in bullet+blitz and 2000+ in in standard.
chess.com ratings are extremely overinflated
I am just bad at blitz. Some players can be good at standard or blitz. I want to know how to get better at quick time controls. And this is a problem with me in tournaments sometimes too- I'm a lot worse in time pressure than usual.

Chillax man, I know dpnorman OTB. He's legitimate.
Assuming one box fits everyone is a very flawed thought process.
@dpnorman i think that's the way it is. Your blitz rating on this site is always 300-400 points lower than your actual OTB rating. If you want your online chess to equal your OTB rating, then you should be playing correspondence or rapid chess (15|10 or 30|0) or maybe 45|45
@FYHP the funny thing is you have seen some of my worst chess. Like the game I played against you was a total disaster lol
And even though you're rated beneath me I think you deserve to be rated at least where I am if not a little higher.
dpnorman, you've proven yourself full of crap the moment you spoke about blitz meaning something.
Blitz means nothing, just get that through your head. There's nothing "funny" okay?
Look at your post, all kinds of excuses and well what if this or that, just shut the **** up. You sound about 12.
tactics/calculation
Maybe you play well but it takes too long to calculate and so your good play ends up not mattering as much.
Welcome to the club.
I have a tendency to play the first legal move that I see with no thought behind it, just to make a move.

You know whos worse? Me. (600 is terrible. Don't bully me). It seems your games aren't lost on time, so maybe time pressure? IDK.
