I find 'win quick' gambits disgusting

Ridiculous. It all depends on what your chess goals are.

So many people are obsessed with improving. To what end? Do you actually think your life will be better as a 1700 rated player than a 1500 rated player? Do you really think you’re going to challenge for the world championship?

Playing gambits is fun. I play the King’s Gambit a lot because it leads to fun positions. Is it good? Probably not so much. Is it fun? Definitely. Do I miss those ratings points I just lost? No. I do miss my dog Kikki though. That was a good doggie. Ratings points? Not so much.

Good post. Gambits can be tricky, so we need to learn how to deal with them. They make the game more interesting which has to be a plus.

It's the Queen's Lendit.

Queens gambit isn’t a gambit despite the name

White gets the pawn back nearly 100% of the time

also, you can win the pawn back forcibly

I mean, your queen is on an odd square...

batgirl

An odd square is called a circle.

Anybody above dreadful knows that if you accept the QG pawn... you let it go. If you try and keep the C pawn... you can lose quickly. But I don't understand why the QGD be much more popular... given the draw and grind rep. QGA better, yes?!

CrockPotLion

A 41% win rate, about. QGA.

Strangemover

Cochrane gambit...🤔

Well don't take the gambit then.

All Gambits are either equal or worse for the side playing the Gambit, assuming you play well. That's why no gambits are played at the top levels. The reasons why kids that aren't too good (U1500) fall for most gambits is they are materialistic, so they try to keep the extra pawn. That weakens their position so that the side playing the Gambit comes out on top.

THEN YOU LOVE CHESS

Boring, slow games that end in draws...

PILOTOXOMXD

They're not played by people who love the game. They're played by people who play for winning, not because they love Chess. I personally play Gambits, of course I love winning, but I actually enjoy the adrenaline rush that I get when I accidentally blunder a piece, or hoping my opponent doesn't see my blunder, or that his piece is hanging.

*snip* I really want to shout abuse at someone when they play some stupid gambit.

Someone must have shouted at Anderssen after his silly evergreen and immortal games.

He wised up and started playing  the solid and safe 1.a3. No more dirty tricks.

Now the world's a  much better place. Thanks to conscientious people like the op.

I can't tell if that's sarcasm.

No you can't. The op may suggest that you stop playing gambits as a cure.

Gambits are simply insulting to one`s opponents. My club has run tournaments forbidding gambits. In fact, purposeful pawn sacrifices in those events cannot be played until the 10th move. It seems a bit harsh but if you don`t like these restrictions, don`t play. One of my members loves to play gambits from both sides. He obviously does not play in those non gambit events (and he`s a strong USCF Expert!).

PILOTOXOMXD

Yeah. Gambits are basically pawn sacs that are theory.
