I Lost a Game for no Reason

I just played a chess game with someone rated a little higher than me. I was not doing too well, but still holding up. Right in the middle, the game stopped and I got a notice saying that there was a connection problem and that it was trying to reconnect. The sign would not go away and the game never resumed. The opponent's clock was running, so I decided to wait until it went to zero. I thought I would automatically win, but I ended up losing and my opponent got 7 points of my rating! If anything, I should've gained 7. Does anyone know what causes this problem, or what it even is?

Thank you.

Sounds like you lost through abandonement due to your connection dropping out momentarily. It happens. Its a game. Move on to the next one.

Or sort out your internet.

Could be worse in 1997 I was playing a game in one of the Wiz's 45.5 slow tournament late at night against an Italian Player on Fics  I was winning the game and closing in on the guy for a beautiful crunch bang checkmate when all of a sudden it went pitch black couldn't see my hand in front of my face.

I remember saying outloud this is NOT happening f---- (I was really pissed) there was nothing I could do stuff like that happens power blackouts provider has issues or down time to do matinence or work or a wire outside is damaged somewhere by winter storm winds causing issues.

Morally and on the board I won the game I know it and so does the guy that claimed the win on me and ran with the point so I take that to heart.

I just lost a game that I was winning for no reason at all.  It was whites move. I was black.  I had him cornered.  He took a long time and then moved.  Straight away it said White won.  I still had 50 seconds left.  What gives?
