I need advice to reach past 2000

So, I recently reached 2k, and then reached a peak of 2022. But, the next day, I dropped to 2007, after playing like 20 or so rapid games. I took a break for a week, came back today, and proceeded to play like 20 or so rapid games again, just to lose 3 elo. Why? Why can't I just win my first game? I think I'm plateauing now, so anyone please help and give me advice

You don't need to worry! You're a great player! Just focus on playing! You see, you have now reached 2000!!! Congrats!!

Losing is the perfect opportunity to learn something new. https://youtu.be/JgQFSgzAyIE?si=e7ZeXFamqwP3mOdG

this has happened to me, and I think honestly, its the mentality of trying to get past the plateau that hurts your play. ignore the rating and just play your best and you will pass the plateau

Just don’t lose

I think your view on progress is a little twisted, not hitting a new peak daily or weekly doesn’t necessarily mean that you are plateauing

For advice just keep doing the basics, puzzles, playing, analysis, some openings etc

You probably should play too many games. 3 a day is probably enough, combined with puzzles, endgame training etc

Also listening to music helps too

Oh wow, I just discovered GM Noel Studer on YouTube. The guy is incredible!!

you can't expect to progress this quickly, it took me 6 months to get from 2k to 2100 and 2 months to get to 2200

ChanMan4, just because you didn't hit 2100 2 weeks after 2000 doesn't mean you are plateauing. I could say, you are improving too fast.

It sounds like a minor form of "ladder anxiety." It's when you play differently because you are afraid of losing rating.

You should play chess when you are in the mood and generally good form and you should avoid playing chess when not in the mood or in generally out of form.

There's nothing wrong with winning a game and stopping if you feel like it, but you're also limiting your potential for gaining more rating because of your not wanting to lose rating. I think of it as milestones and that once I reach a new high rating, then that best rating can never be un-done. I may temporarily lose rating, but I can only ever get a new all-time best rating. There's only upside.

chanman my rating is 1960 i recommend playing to scotch gambit or just study oppenning

After 1900 players get significantly better. I would study more and try to better your skills. Like playing against bots or learning new openings.

im 2000+ i can tell you how to not drop down i was at 2068 but dropped to 2010

Trying to improve your chess skills simply by playing rapid or blitz is not realistic. At your level, you should be trying to improve by studying—master games, opening theory, middlegame planning, analyzing your tournament games, etc.

There is a simple explanation for the plateau. If you have a range set for your opponents (say, +/- 100), you will always be playing stronger and stronger opponents as you improve. This makes it harder to continue to win.

Bro I'm from his school and he dominates the chess club there. Have some self esteem and believe in yourself.
