i have started many forums asking for help getting ro 1300, and I have finally exceeded my goal. I am now aiming for 1450. I publicly announce many thanks to member Logozar for helping me so much (I won't go into particulars). I just want to share my excitement with you all, my dear friends😀.

Did you feel the bump internally when you improved?
StephenCorelli

I don't know what you mean

Do you know you're a stronger player than the Stephen of a month ago?

Good for you; just do your tactics every day; in the tactics trainer, there is a reset history button and then you can do unlimited tactics daily this way.  Also, don't focus on being grandmaster; it's not productive and too haughty; focus on finding the BEST MOVE.  That's the only sure path to getting there.

amazing

Listen to me carefully : STOP feeling happy or exited !

Yes yes it's very hush from me I know that, but on another hand you need to study, improve , play more etc...

When you reach a GM then you cab have a BIG, HUGE if you want celebration you deserve it, OR at least when you get a CM title (small celebration is allowed).

My point is its only for your own good don't feel happy now, you should think opposite, how hopeless , pathetic, weak I am look at me! Get angry at yourself, bring this anger in to the training (in a good way) be angry, thirsty to improve

Congrats man!

Set the goal higher, by the 7.06.2017 you should reach 1700 rating , it's not hard and very realistic, but all comes down to one thing only, how much do you really want it?

MartyMcfly85

Good job

Pathetic? Weak, and hopeless? Lol.

Raging is always bad, and being angry too. So dont be angry but simply excited to improve.

For some 1370 is a breaktrough, and not everyone wants to become GM or even CM.

So, the advice from that russian dude was probably not even advice lol.

lol You people should stop caring so much abojt rating.

Are you serious?

Internet numbers are designed to give us social respect and self-steem, buddy. It is lovely to care about them, like who would even care about improvement, fun, and getting laid?

Money cant buy happiness. And I can see my bank account balance on the internet.

Well done!

Congratulations! I'm heading "down" to that rating. I hit a slump and start to annoy the heck of me. Keep up your steady rise on ratings and I hope you never hit this type of losing streak. I think I'm 4 wins, 19 loses and 1 draw for the last 2 dozen games.

1hey

StephenCorelli do your work on tactics and your rating will rise or get crush like a melon from giants

Why? It's a very clear representation of a growing player. It's not perfect, but it's still something. It's an accomplishment in chess like many other things. It's like saying the scale doesn't matter to a person who's trying to lose weight. Weight isn't the end all be all. But it's still a good guide on your journey. Other signs of growth can be a lot harder to recognize.

Good Luck Corelli ...I hope you make it

No one is reducing chess to a number here. It's a thread specifically about reaching a rating goal.

Ratings are a nice part of chess.  They are objective and give a good indication of progress.  Everyone is happy to see their rating go up, few or none are happy when it takes a dive.

But I rather agree that it can be a distraction.  One or two recent opponents seemed to me not to be playing at quite the standard their rating suggested.  When I took a look at their stats I found they were playing a lot of games against players a couple of hundred rating points lower and those were the games they won.  Their stats showed the average rating of those to whom they lost or with whom they drew to be at or below their current rating.  Now seeking easier games with the aim of massaging your rating seems like a mistake.  Mostly it is said that playing opponents of your own standard and better is the best way to progress.

Not sure what alternative target could be adopted, perhaps achieving some number of wins/draws against higher rated opponents.

Anyway well done with breaking through to your new level.  I hope you can hold that new rating or improve it further.  I suspect it may be just as hard to go from 1300 to 1400 as it is to go from 2700 to 2800.
