Stop playing bullet and give yourself a decent amount of time to think. You have almost 10,000 bullet games and you can't crack 1000 in standard? I know you're having fun but remember what one of the best bullet players on the planet, Nakamura, said: "Bullet isn't chess". The problem now is you have ingrained your mistakes so deeply into your play that you almost have to start over. Do correspondence games, research your openings and use a database to guide you into the middle game. Bullet and blitz are addictive, I know, but that's the problem isn't it? That rush of endorphins then becomes more important than the game itself, and that ain't right. A wiser man than me once wrote "Blitz can serve as a valuable showcase for your skills. Unfortunately, below a level of 2000 the showcase is largely empty". That's my rant of the day. Good luck with your chess!
I really need help with this one

I deserved every word. Thank you very much for not "sugaring" the pill. Bullet is INCREDIBLY fun and yes, it is indeed addictive. I will follow your advice. I appreciate the time you took to type that out. Have a great day!

Glad to help and pleasantly surprised by your gracious response. I overstated my case; blitz can be useful to learn new openings quickly as long as you review the games afterward. I suggested correspondence games because in the process of researching positions you can correct some of your ingrained mistakes. Undoubtedly you'll miss live chess and 2 groups that play slow chess here are "The Dan Heisman Learning Center" and NM aww-rats' study group. And again, good luck with your chess!

Even if they're just bullet games, I like to pick at least a few of them and look over them briefly for positions where I had difficulty.
So for example the Nc2 or Nc7 fork, look at the game, see the knight heading there, Nc6-b4-c2 and make a mental note to check b4-c2 whenever you see Nc6 played.

Thanks to all of you. It's hard to stop the bullet but it is REALLY hard to feel good about the occasional "big" (for me) win in bullet when my "standard" chess rating is so horrible. I am starting over from the foundation and hopefully I will have you all to thank for straightening me out.
Sincere thanks,
Chris
How can I stop CONSTANTLY losing my Rooks via the Knight (opponents landing on c2 w/Knight and placing me in check as an example)? There are many fundamentals I need to work on but I feel that I am moving one or two pieces and opponents are seeing neon lights or something! Thank you for any help..
