I really need some motivation guys

I really need some motivation to keep playing. I really want to get good at the game, but the last few days I have just had all the wind sucked out of my sails. I have been playing for a month or so, but I lose almost every game. Even when I do win it's because the opponent messed up. I am constantly on my heels and feel like I never get the chance to go on the offensive. It is very deflating to have dedicated so much time over the month and see absolutely no progress. I'm sorry to vent here, I'm just feeling pretty down about the whole game. I was hoping chess would be something I could finally be good at.

I would recommend taking a step back and stop playing as much. You have a diamond membership do lots of puzzles and the chess.com lessons, then play like 3 games a day to let those lessons sink in. And when you finish a game, analyze it even if it's just 5 mins, don't just jump to the next game

"I lose almost every game." ++ It is OK to lose games, as long as you learn from these.

"when I do win it's because the opponent messed up."
++ That is the essence of chess: you can only win after the opponent messes up.

"I never get the chance to go on the offensive." ++ You can also win with defensive chess.

"so much time over the month and see absolutely no progress" ++ So you did not do the right thing.

"I was hoping chess would be something I could finally be good at."
++ What is good? 2000? CM? FM? IM? GM? 2600? 2700? 2800? Chess is a game. It is meant to be fun.

Very unhelpful. Thanks!

You have adjustment in app's settings for how much in "+" or "-" your incoming/outcomming opponent's requestst's elo will be. Change the app's "theme" in settings for starters. Turn off/on the sound. Change notification settings on your phone's OS settings (would you rather not to be interrupted with app's notifications when you don't wanna play. Are you a sedentary person, take a walk. Are you taking daily 20 min. naps? Are you making daily "trash outs" in your notepad in the form of quick-diary (even about most banal details), making you to be gratefull for every life's little advancements on a daily basis? Could you fell content with yourself generaly, for your litlle and big life's wins so that to feel translated to chess? If you don't have an idol who played chess, from your youth, could you rewind the time when you were the most exited about the game and feel now that way? Is your life tend to go toward order or not? All that is tranfered to the stance toward The Game...

You've been playing a month, my friend. You shouldn't expect master level progress in that time. When I started in Jaunary 2022, my rating stabilized around 370. It took til June to hit 1000. It took 6 months of study to assemble a modicum of understanding of this game. And even then, I realized I knew next to NOTHING about chess. It's an extremely complex game which necessitates dedicated study and perseverance, because it doesn't get easier the higher you go. You'll have to cultivate a resilient mental attitude, because chess is brutal.

At your stage the best advice I can give is to do a lot of puzzles and find all the material on opening principles you can get your hands on. YouTube is a great source for material on that.

Good luck! Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions. I'd love to help any way I can.

You've been playing a whole month?? And no progress?! I can't believe it! I started off as a 100 rated player, and within a month I was an IM. Two weeks later, I achieved the GM title. It makes no sense that you've put an entire 31 days in, and you're not moving up the ratings ladder. Maybe you should eat more green vegetables and watch Pickleball on TV. I hear those things help improve chess tactics.

thank you for such thoughtful feedback

This is your mistake.

Motivation is simply interest in the game ( a complex game that requires a lot of patience ) : as long as you like playing chess, continue, otherwise use your time more profitably than moving pieces on a chessboard.

For technical advice, listen to experienced players.

Have fun !
