Chess is easy to learn, but hard to master
I SUCK at Chess
Look at every piece on the board and count how many pieces are attacking and defending each piece. If the number of pieces that are defending is an equal number too what is attacking then that piece is safe. Whenever you make a move do a recount of every piece on the board for both players and determine how you can increase the number of safe pieces on your side, and non safe pieces on your opponents. Chess is not easy to learn. I spent three years watching a 2000 player over the board play every day. I got the feel for what works and what doesn't only by watching him for a long time. The first piece of advise I ever got was to always develop all pf your pieces before you start attacking. Also, don't worry about strategical things like pawn islands at your level, just focus on not dropping stuff. Once you get that down then you can start worrying about strategy.
Use Chess Mentor here on C.c
Its really good. Also do lots of tactical puzzles like on Tactics Trainer. Also, if you wanna get REALLY good - STUDY THE ENDGAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
here is a very simple one to remember, when making a move "check for checks and capture, on both side"
Why should you go through all this torture, friend?
Give up chess and take on Kung fu or baseball or bungy jumping or whatever!
But whatever it is , ENJOY it!!
Second one was pretty easy, but I failed at the first one. I didn't even realise white was in check on the first move.
Don't know if saying this will help, but my rating is 1,000-1,200.
and stop playing against higher rated players, work your way up
By playing against higher rated players, you learn from your mistakes as your opponents are able to exploit them, therefore showing you what you did wrong.
First you most be able to understand the positional understanding of chess.
Who was it that told me this person always makes meaningless contributions?
I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas!
lol Simpsons reference? I know a few people who could actually seriously use that sentence. They talk as if they've reached the limit of what they can achieve in chess, yet have never even opened a book or done any study.
