What do you mean you do not know your true rating? You do. Just check your profile. You played 380 rapid games, 350 blitz games and 1680 bullet game. This is enough to establish your true rating.

It's different

Different from what?

the ratings

You mean that your bullet, blitz and rapid ratings are different from each other? Why do you expect them to be the same?

which one should I believe? the blitz, bullet or rapid?

All of them. Bullet, blitz and rapid are different games, requiring different (albeit overlapping) sets of skills. You can be better at bullet and blitz than at rapid, or the other way around. Your 3 ratings measure your strength at 3 different time controls relative to 3 different player pools. It is perfectly normal for them not to be the same, they don't have to. There's no such thing as one true rating (just like, for example, there's no absolute velocity, velocity is always relative to a frame of reference).

Take Hikaru, for instance. As of now, his FIDE ratings are:

  • Blitz: 2885
  • Rapid: 2748
  • Classical: 2775

His blitz rating is higher than his rapid rating by more than 100 points. You see, you are not alone. wink.png

Maybe I should make a topic about quitting forums. These comments are sometimes helpful and sometimes not. I mean we're brutally honest about our rating, but some just did like nothing and some just didn't see the topic. It's just me trying to mine for good messages and rarely finding anything. Some just outright insult me like "Why do you play 30 minute games when your attention span isn't long enough? Stupid flip." so using my roasting and rhyming skills I managed to roast him and he never messaged again in this topic. If you wanna see the roast it's on #49. I actually saw some message that said about this and I really appreciate it.

ThebiggestWever

quite a of forum users aren't coaches or high level players, so they probably can't give you advice, or atleast not in a way that would help. People who insult you are just like that for no reason lol

My rating is low and I can't know my true rating. I just don't wanna think about it. I moved on to some other interests. Just motivate me or something.

I’ve been 100 for a month but I’ve been practicing for 2 years and I’m literally a tournament player who got 3rd in under 10s in Scotland a few months ago

No! don't quit chess, lets suffer together!!!

The heck? chess.com is for fun not suffering people who suffer should quit chess

TBH (to be honest) chess IS very hard, but don’t give up. If you have been playing for years and you just quit all of a sudden, that is hard work going to waste.

no.

I notice most of your games are blitz, first try to play mostly long games like 30min+, i see you have some of this time control so thats good. Analyze your games after you play them in detail without a computer, look at what you think your mistakes were, what you missed etc, than check yourself with a computer. Chess isn't for everyone. It's too frustrating for some people, but if you really want to improve at it than you just need to try harder and study a lot

Ginawontshutup

That is good advice...also if you can play some games with higher rated players who are willing to go over the game with you, that ca nbe very helpful

MyDogIsCuter
Don't quit! There will always be people better than you, and there will always be people worse than you. You shouldn't beat yourself up about your rating, just try to have fun playing.

If you found this like after May, I should have probably got to other interests, so yeah uh please dont reply grin.png

Chessflyfisher

Yeah, you should try something else.

I'm glad you haven't quit! Try focus on the enjoyment you have, rather than the rating. Switch it up do some bullet do some 3 day do some puzzles, relax a little grab a cup of tea or try some puzzle rush. Just keep it fun and light, unless you plan to craft your entire life around becoming a chess instructor or player as a job then there's no need to sweat it 😊

If your not having fun or see a benefit of playing then stop playing

I agree

Play some variants from time to time

Forget about the openings. Learn how to think during the game and openings are going to be piece of cake. I can teach you EXACTLY how to think during the game (opening, middlegame and endgame). Your chess understanding will never be the same and you will improve a lot. I charge €20/h, but if you can’t afford too many lessons, don’t worry. I can teach you a lot in an hour. Here to help if you are interested.

If you want to study by yourself, read ‘Logical Chess’. It is really instructive book. You have it on youtube as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eTB7oHeRgM&list=PLUrgfsyInqNa1S4i8DsGJwzx1Uhn2AqlT
