I would Easily Beat Tal, Fischer, and Morphy

Their performance was only good because it was a long time ago.

If I played any of them in a match now, I would easily win on time. None of them could even make one move. They would just sit there and do nothing. In fact, I could easily beat all three of them in a blindfold simul as black with rook odds.

Seriously, why is there contraversy about this? There is no way any of them could beat me, any scholastic player would have no problem against them.

Opposite is true.    Scholastic players would sit opposite the Board of these Icons and freeze in their presence -- not being able to make a single move and would lose on time........true at least of those scholastic players who know their chess history.

Ah, I don't think you're getting the joke. Smile

Actually he might be right. A lot of people would probably pass out if they found themselves sitting across from one of these guys. Either that or run out of the room screaming.

Of course, I would take the chance to beat them.

Gamificast

Of course you would beat them if you played them now. Anyone on this site would beat them.

Why? Because they are dead. Dead people can't play chess.

HorsesGalore

don't be so sure.  Korchnoi claimed he beat a dead player.

I can guarantee you that you would not win. They are not chess men, they are chess gods. And I worship them. To say you would beat them is blasphemy. I know this without even needing to see any of their games.

They would also beat any modern player alive today. Ratings have been inflated at least three hundred thousand points. If Morphy were alive today, he would win even if he had one pawn vs 16 queens (yes, 16, not even a king). I know this without seeing any modern games too. I don't need to see games know anything, because I already know everything about it, and Morphy would beat today's top 10 players in a simultaneous blindfold giving them all rook odds with only 30 seconds on his clock.

dynamicchess1897

You wouldn't last 25 moves against the likes of Fischer or Tal. While it may be debated whether they would reach a 2700+ rating in the modern era, there is absolutely no argument that they would at least be grandmaster strength.

AliGN99

Their historical elo ratings are still extremely high, and their relative lack of opening knowledge would be compensated for by middle and endgame creativity.

Kieseritzkys_Revenge

Sure, you could beat Tal, Fischer, and Morphy but would be crushed by Kieseritzky!

xman, ur only rated 1400 glicko, and 1400 glicko is 1200 elo, and tal, and Fischer were way over 2000 elo

I deleted the last comment because it was a repeat of the one above it.

Guys, the joke is that they are dead, so they cannot move.
