Thank you IM.

He's only an international master of bacon though. His chess advice is fine, but be sure to ask him for pork related tips.

Come on llama, youre gonna blow my cover.  You rat me out as not being a real IM, youre going to take away peoples ability to call me out for being fake and a liar.  Oh wait....that wont deter them.  Never mind...

But yes when it comes to keto and pork products i am the foremost expert (Keto GM)

That's great llama. I'm a vegan but I don't hold it against IM Bacon as he is awesome!.... Maybe I can nudge him towards eating a bit less pig though?? ;)

Bacon is really the only pork product i eat.  When California passed another of their self-righteous laws trying to tell pork producers how to raise/pen their pigs or they cant sell in the state.  I was getting blown up with message about it, and will it impact me?  I said nope...my cousin has a pig farm.

That's a very strange goal. Just try to win every game. If you score more than 50%, your rating will improve until you reach 50% again.

Just trying to figure out how to share a game I played on here. But, err, I failed as you can see from the previous post!....

DGerardP

Can anyone please explain how I can share a game or even just one move/image from a game?? Thanks so much.

Your goal should be to improve your game. Analyze your games, learn endgame theory, figure out which openings and defenses give you positions where you feel comfortable, improve your calculating skill. When your overall game improves, you will win a better% of your games.

And it's been glitching for something like a week now. After you go through those steps, your post will not appear to have a game in it... when that happens click on the button to edit your post, and then post it again (you don't have to change anything). After that the game will appear.

Hi Sred. Yes, for sure, I will try to win every game! But, realistically, you know aiming for something like 6 out of 11 as a minimum would be good. But, of course, if I can win more that is better. And I have won about two thirds of my games in the past two weeks, which I'm really pleased with! (Though my last game was horrible). I will aim high...

Thank you very much llama47 :)

Well, I just don't understand what a goal like that even does. Let's assume you set yourself the goal to score 6/11. What are the practical consequences?

If everyone you play is lower rated than you, what did you accomplish winning 6/11?

What was the time control?

Did you do your own analysis?

Did you learn anything?

If youre just looking for numbers, then just keep on playing speed chess.  A year later you can look back at your 500+ wins.

Toad1258

you won't gain rating points if you win against low rated players

You gain rating points for beating people lower than you, just not as many.

(and if they're really far below you, like 400 points, then sure, you'll gain nothing)

DGerardP

Yep, Sred, IM Bacon and others, I got it, I agree, thank you. My question and reasoning was fatuous. I totally agree improvement is the thing. I was just curious about the maths really. Working hard and improvement is what matters, and if I do this the numbers will follow. Don't worry, I got the message - and it is a good message, thank you. And I really am not in a rush! I only took up chess in April at age 48. I have a full time job and 2 children, so don't have much time. But I study more than I play - which is good I think - and if I reach 900 by 49, the 1000 by 50 I'd be happy

DGerardP

Meant 'and then 1000 by 50 I'd be happy'. Chess is a wonderful and fascinating game, I'm so happy to have discovered it at 48, I feel like I'm making up for lost time. I'm reading Kasparov's My Great Predecessors, and it is so interesting. I'm already a Chess addict I reckon and to play even at my very low level feels like an honour.
