If you could what requirements would you add/remove to attain the CM-GM title ??

For not just the ones in the forum name but for the titles RM,UM,NM,LM,FM,SM,IM and GM ?

What are the RM and UM Titles? I've never heard of those.

RM (Regional Master) is a title achieved only in the BCF/ECF federations similar to the NM title but a little easier to get cause one only needs a 2000-2199 rating but it's rewarded like the LM title is. UM is more of a mystery to me but it's a title that's awarded only in South Africa and other than a player having to be at 2000+ I don't know much else about it

I thought about connecting masters title to top100. Say - GM = enter top100 or even top50 instead of 2500, IM = top100 rating(r100) - 100, FM = r100-200, CM = r100-300 or maybe r100-250 and r100-400 for FM and CM.

Top50 means 2687 today, top100 - 2651. But more importantly, all titles will change dynamically and not inflate/deflate with ELO.

I'd simply remove ratings altogether and go back to categories.  Theoretically if you win a couple of small tournaments in the Intermediate section but haven't played in awhile but have a beginner rating then you'll be reflected as 1300 (or whatever) when your actual playing strength is clearly higher. 

I'd keep norming as is but have more tournaments.  I'd get rid of national titles altogether since big federations need more involvement with FIDE and have them grandfathered in as either CMs or FMs depending on their rating*

There wouldn't be ratings anymore but the category they'd correspond to. 

So, in Swiss style tournaments, how do you do pairings in a system with no ratings? Random assignment/ordering per round based on rating categories (and of course score groups) ?

Replacing ELO with Glicko on the way might be a good idea too.

Seeding based off performance.  Like how they did in the old days.  Maybe there'd still be a rating but it'd be hidden. 

Even if there won't be official rating, there will be live one, and nothing will change;)
