If You're A Chess Player, You're Probably Smarter Than Others. Is this, TRUE?
Being a chess player doesn't mean you're probably smarter than others; it just means you're probably not an idiot.

That's what you did to study. What did you learn? What improvement did you make?
Last Christmas I was at 490. I've learnt a lot of theory - openings, tactics, endgames etc. But on a chessboard it doesn't work.

Well, you use at least half the time when playing so it is a start. Maybe try a couple daily game and truly spend a minute or two on every move, where you look for what you can do and how opponent can react to that move. Analyze your previous losses and write down your common misstakes, try to avoid them in future games. And repeat the lessons to see what you forgotten as well as what you don't implement in your game.
It is the good, old "Plan-Do-Check-Act" algorithm of improvement.
Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by the ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that is stupid. – Albert Einstein.
I think they're all NPD traits, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure you can be a genius at chess, but a complete retard when it comes to all the areas of life that actually matter ha. Sorry.

i used to think when i was a kid in San Francisco i was way ahead of the whole elementary school in math. My papers where platered all over the school. Unfortunately the teachers did not teach me anything newer but made me wait untill the students caught up with the knowledge i had.
Later in life I felt i had a quick anylitical mind and could solve intricate problems quickly. I used that in my employment and sports.
But know at 85 years old my chess is going down the drain . . .
