Today I shall play my first ever blind game of Chess against my brother.

Keep in mind, he is much worse than me at Chess, but I’m slightly nervous regardless, as this is a completely new experience for me.

Any tips from people with first hand experience in blindfold Chess?

That’s crazy bro, but I didn’t ask for your input.

Run along now, and play with your panda doll kid.

I’ll have you know that I played well over 30 moves, and resigned not because I lost track of the position or because I was losing, but because I got tired and wanted to have some water.

In fact the majority of the game consisted of him getting dominated.

It got to the point that I started recommending moves to him.

I am 1400 not because of poor visualization, but because I’m lazy when playing, so I don’t calculate nearly as much as I should.

The last rated game I played I was completely winning, but got lazy and played for a draw because I didn’t want to calculate.

So your saying if you were not lazy you would be higher rated? Hmm interesting

The first true statement I've read around here in ages!

Well of course you could beat a newbie in blindfold but try playing me blindfold (if possible) it is very hard to beat someone experienced is all I’m saying

You say this as though the result would change were he not blindfolded

Blindfold is a skill.  The better you are at chess, the easier it is to play blindfold, but like any skill, if you work at it, you can be good at blindfold at any level.

As would anyone else on the face of the Earth.

Hard work = improvement.

If I wasn’t lazy of course I’d be a stronger and more knowledgeable player, and consequently a higher rated one.

Many times I’ve seen a thread saying “I can’t improve, help!”

My sage wisdom is the simple advice of “just do more tactics” and their rating significantly improves shortly after they do so.

I wasn’t saying beating a weaker player blindfolded is a grand accomplishment, just that I faired much better than you thought I would.

Of course I wouldn’t beat a player rated hundreds upon hundreds of points higher than me blindfolded, and neither would you or anyone else for that matter.

But it went far more favorably for me than you initially assumed.
