Increase elo gain after wins for new users

Alright, I’ve played a few games on this site and still haven’t lost any. However, my elo is only 1085. I clicked the beginner choice when creating this account, cuz I didn’t know what skill level people on this website have. However, I am only getting 40 elo when I win which is such a pain, as it’s time consuming to get to a higher level. I think people with new accounts should gain more elo for wins and lose more for losses, which should gradually taper off after a certain amount of games. I also think more rating points should be awarded for high accuracy games and win streaks, as they show that a player is at too low a level for their actual skill.

So what are you trying to talk about saying this?

Winning a game with a new account should give more elo than it currently does, and win streaks should give bonus elo

New players do get larger rating changes after games. As you play more games that value decreases.

I know, I got 100 rating after my first game. However it’s decreasing after each game even though I’m not losing, I think high amounts of elo should still be awarded until there have been a few losses, not based on games played

You can close this account and create a new one with initial 1600 or even 2000 (I dont remember if this one exists) rating

And there should not be any bonus for winning streaks, its chess, not Super Mario games

If you are consecutively winning games, it shows you are playing at a level lower than your skill

Correct

So you should get more elo to fast-track getting to your level

And you get 40 points instead of usual 8

As for "I didn’t know what skill level people on this website have" I think you might have known indeed:

Yes, I haven’t played properly for a while and on those accounts I closed them cuz my elo was dropping. I created this one to start anew and didn’t know if I still had any skill at all

Anyone have a good reason why win streaks shouldn’t give bonus elo? I don’t mind being proven wrong, say whatever you want

Your results for @Terminated80 show that you are approaching your proper rating level.

It seems likely that you will soon see a few losses.

I know, I’m just saying that it takes a bit too long to reach a proper rating. If a player joins this site as a beginner, goes inactive and trains really hard, and comes back it will take so long for them to reach their new level. Bonus points for winning streaks could fix this issue

Long gaps in games will increase the rating changes, similar to new accounts. How much depends on the length of the game.

The site uses the Glicko rating system that already accounts for that

It will take a couple of days at most

Not an option if they use their accounts for just a couple of days, of course

Btw, why create an account and not use it during the "hard training"?

Idk, maybe they get OTB coaching, play more tournaments, or use a different site

silver_back_gorilla

same problem for me

Improvement is hard.

Your rating is an inaccurate estimate of your skill. I can see that you beat a 1400 and drew with a 1500 with that account you just closed.

You might want to read CEO Erik's article on how ratings work.

In these exceptional cases a player may create a new account since the current one might have no value or just achieve the real rating in a couple of days
