IN THE OLD DAYS, there was no exception to TIME FORFEIT. Once an opponent runs out of time, the player wins.
TODAY - an exception to TIME FORFEIT is in the rules. Once an opponent runs out of time, TIME FORFEIT is not imposed if the player has insufficient material and the game is declared a draw.
