I'm sure you've all heard of the chess champion's at I.S. 318 in Brooklyn. If you haven't take two minutes to watch the trailer from the documentary Brooklyn Castle. The team lost all public funding a few years ago. Despite this, the school’s chess team has won more championships than any public school in the country!
Mr. Galvin, the assistant principal who runs the chess team, created a project request through DonorsChoose.org to cover all their needs for the school year (everything from travel costs to chess boards). Over 280 people have already donated, including Josh Waitzkin!
