Hi Friends,

The least no. of moves required to force a stalemate in chess is said to be 10 moves (I couldn't find a proof till now though to show at least 10 moves is required).

Is there an algorithm or a method to find the least no.of moves that leads to a forced stalemate (White or Black). Is a stalemate quicker than 10 moves possible at all? Any suggestions/comments will be helpful.

Thanks and CheersSmile,

Arun

I find it very hard to believe a stalemate position can be reached in 10 moves. I'd have to see it to believe it.

Ahhhh a help-stalemate. More understandable but still remarkable.

Nice. Is it possible to do this in less than 10 moves at all? :).

Bumping a real old thread :). Just wanted to know, is a help-stalemate in less than 9 moves possible at all. Is there any way to prove or disprove.

Cheers,

Arun
