Well based on the rules it is. Checkmate ends the game.
That's at least the primary goal.
There are some secondary goals but these goals are different for everyone.
In blitz more rarely than in a long game. But checkmark is definitely the most beautiful part of the game and especially when it follows an unexpected attack with some sacrifices. That's the part if drama, suspense and a climax.
checkmate, not chekmark, that spelling checker sucks.

If you're talking chess, yeah, I guess so. Other sports/games, maybe not.
