Is chess a dangeous endeavor?

Estonia's strong grandmaster GM Paul Keres suffered heart attack and died on his way home to Estonia after winning the World Chess Championship in Vancouver in 1975.

Johannes Zukertort died of a stroke during a chess game with sylvian Meyer in 1888.

Russian grandmaster Vladimir Simagin died of heart attack while playing chess in Kislovodsk, Russia in 1968.

Nikolai Titov died during the Moscow Candidates Masters Championship. His opponent, Vladimir dobrynin says; Nikolai was deep in in his thought when suddenly he grasps his head and screams. The other players stop playing to look at him. They saw him as his head literally explodes. Aside from Nikolai, nobody was hurt, although four players and three officials were peppered with blood and brain tissues. The experts say that Nikolai suffered from Hyper-Cerebral Electrolysis or HCE. It is caused by severe brain activity that somehow caused the skull to be subject high pressure to cause it to explode.

GM Ian Rogers of Australia retires from playing chess in 2007 upon the advice of his doctors.

Vladimir Bagirov, a Latvian grandmaster died of heart attack in 2000 while playing chess in tournament in Finland. On the same year, another Latvian, aivars Gipslis suffered a stroke while playing chess in Berlin from which he later died.

During the 41st Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway, a player from Seychelles team collapsed and later died in hospital. Also at the same Olympiad, a player from Uzbekistan was found dead in his hotel room.

Gideon Stahlberg died of heart attack during the 1967 Leningrad International Chess Tournament.

In view of the above, is it good for our health to say, especially if already advanced in years that quitting chess is a good decision?
