Funny how people don't understand a basic definition:

Sport - an activity involving physical exertion AND skill...

Chess is not a sport. in my dictionary, a sport must involve a mediocre amount of physical activity. chess is all about mental thinking, so it's not really a sport-it's just a game.

exactly "in your dictionary"

How does chess not involve physical exertion

"Physical exertion"

throwing a dart accurately isn't physical exertion. hitting a ball with a stick slowly to get another ball in a hole isn't physical exertion.

anyway games doesn't just mean video games. Games can be things like board games, mental games, etc etc.

They're not athletic sports, like golf, but require tremendous skill physically to be good at.

They're also televised and popular making them more of an entertaining viewing spectacle than chess.

Pinball is more of a sport than chess.

You don't seem to understand.

physical EXERTION. the definition of sport doesn't say JUST physical SKILL.

Even if you were to make the argument that Darts requires more physical skill than football (soccer), that doesn't make it a sport. It's not "superior" for an activity to be called a sport, its literally just a classification.

Football requires lots of physical exertion, darts requires practically none. Neither does chess.

I can see your argument that Darts is not a sport, but pool / snooker / billiards you have the physical exertion of hitting a ball which directly attributes to a player's skill level (power shots etc) wheras in darts the physical element of the game has no consequence on a player's ability.

If you think hitting a ball with a stick slowly requires even mediocre physical exertion then you have genuinely no idea about these games.

Cooking literally requires more physical exertion than snookers/billiards. It's not a sport.

Try telling that to professionals who have to keep bending over and striking the cue ball for hours in front of an audience they may not have to be in great physical shape to compete but it helps.

Chess doesn't involve physical exertion. It's not a sport. it's a board game.

but it doesn't matter. If you enjoy playing chess then play chess, who cares what it's listed as.

Again, this definition is hanging by a thread. Skill is required in chess. Physical activity, well it depends, but I know what you mean, so I'd say no. But then, answer me this: what physical activity is required for darts or snooker? "Sports" where you're basically walking around a table or back and forth to pick up the darts, which might be the same distance chess players walk after all their trips to the restroom and back.

Skill IS required in chess. But not physical skill. Mental skill is required in chess, and many other games. Physical skill is required for sports. There is no minimum, or maximum, amount of physical activity for something to be a sport. It just has to be above zero. Chess, unfortunately, doesn't qualify. It has zero physical skill. Which, again, is why people with zero physical skills (no arms or legs) can still play chess.

The physical skill for darts is pretty obvious. The person who trains the most, has the best eye hand co-ordination has a better chance of winning. The goal is to throw the dart more accurately than anyone else. That is not luck. That is skill. Physical skill. No matter how smart you are, no matter your mental skill, the person who has greater PHYSICAL skill will win.
