I don't expect a kid to understand how soul crushing it is to be surrounding by people you can't talk to.

And anyway, they can't pretend worth s**t. I can immediately tell who is a kid. The OP reeks of it, by the way. The title alone... but I could name 4-5 other enormous clues.

It's what's made me the miserable POS I am today.

People think I can just wake up in the morning and decide to be like this? No. It takes a lot of work over many years.

(for the record, I've made tons of nice and useful posts. People PM me their thanks and we talk and play friendly games, etc... but I guess you don't tend to click on topics whose titles threaten anything substantial within... because yeah I tend to p*ss and moan in other topics)

Do you all think it is best to study the games of the older generation…. Anderssen, Morphy, Steinitz, or the more modern players such as Lasker, Alekhine, Capablanca?

A benefit of the these modern players is the latest opening theory.
