I listen to ASMR while I play chess, so im usually relaxed.
is chess relaxing?
I think chess can be really mentally positive because it trains focus and patience, but staying calm matters, so pairing it with wellness strategies helps. BetterMe shares corporate wellness tips, including mindful breaks, exercises, and routines that reduce stress and boost mental clarity, which can make chess even more relaxing and enjoyable.
It depends on the time control. Anything faster than 30 minutes and I'm pressed. 30 minutes or higher, and I feel relaxed, even when I'm getting dog-walked (aka most of the time).
I play 30 minute games after long stretches of homework because it helps me decompress.
Playing with friends otb is also more relaxing than strangers on the internet imho.
if you playing chess seriously? HELL NO
if you can relax , you are playing it wrong and are begging to be swindled. They are brief periods where you dont have to be as tense like in the beginning when you both playing theory you know very well, or a won endgame you can do with your eyes closed but for the most part, this games fortunes change on too little to be relaxed and be taking it seriously.

Is chess relaxing? I've heard people say chess helps them slow down and stuff, but there are also people who stress about chess so much that flip boards and bang tables. (not even magnus is exempt) so simply state your opinion, do you think that chess overall is a mentally positive experience?
