Is chess960 beneficial to an improving player?

Chess960/Fischer Random seems interesting, as it makes opening knowledge obsolete. But is there any reason for an improving player like myself to get into it? (Other than to have fun)
Would it help me with finding tactics or developing a plan? Or am I better off spending my chess time playing and analyzing normal games, solving puzzles, etc?
