Sure. Each side has a strategy. They try to put each player in the best possible position. There are more similarities too.
Everything is like everything else to varying degrees. Chess is more like football than it's like hair follicles or the atmosphere of Neptune.
Football would be like chess if
1. You had the exact same players on your offense, defense and special teams.
2. One a player is tackled, he's out of the game forever, unless
3. When a player scores a touchdown you can replace him with one of your players that got taken out of the game.
