Well, Hikaru is not the world champion. He is number 20 on the world rank for classical chess and number 4 for rapid chess. But he is right now number 1 on the world rank in blitz chess.
Magnus Carlsen is defending world champion, number 1 on the world rank for both classical and rapid chess and number 2 for blitz chess. So it would probably be more fair to call him the best chess player as of right now.
