I am playing a match in online chess against a player of higjher rating (about 200 points different). Am I allowed to ask in the forum on which one of us has a better chance of winning according to the current situation.

But is it allowed

it can influence the game. i would ask your opponent if he minds and if he's agreeable then you have an argument for proceeding. plus that would be common courtesy...

Taking my first comment in wider context, no, imho it gives an unfair advantage.

No it is not allowed.

It is a version of giving help. Let's say that you have a winning combination from the current situation -- but you don't necessarily know it. Sometimes an outside party just saying "you have a winning combination" is enough for you to take a closer look.

There's a famous story about this. It was a super-GM tournament from decades ago. Petrosian was in a difficult position, trying to save a draw. All of a sudden, one of the other GMs was looking over his game while walking around, and then went to go whisper to some of the other GMs. This being odd, Petrosian took a closer look, and found he actually had a winning line!

if all you care about is who has a better position then post the question after the game is over.

It's not allowed. You can only post your games after they're over

Avatar of Baseballfan

This is correct. No discussion of on-going games is allowed on the forums or anywhere.

Thanks for the answers.I guess, I will post the game for analysis after it finishes .
