A win on the bottom board counts for just as much as a win on board 1. It's smart to pay attention to the lower boards, and it's true that is where results tend to be the most lopsided. I think it's a good idea to play for board 5, but it's not a bad idea to chose board 3 either. It's not so much that you'd be "taking one for the team" in terms of putting yourself on the lowest board, a board of shame or something, because that's not it at all. You'd be taking one for the team by choosing to face what is likely to be somewhat weaker opponents overall. This is what team play is about though, so again I think it's a good idea but board 3 isn't a bad choice either if you decide that's what you really want.

Me and some team mate's of mine from a local club are registered and a 5 man team league and were in the middle of choosing the starting 5 out of the 39 people that play at the club. I've been chosen to be one of the top five (not sure which board yet) but out of the already 3 people chosen It's been a little debate on who should be 1st boa red and the team's representative explained not only to us 3 but the whole club that most of the time the last board is very important sometimes as much as the 1st board player. He goes on to say reason being sine the first 2 or 3 boards have monster playing them more time's than non awinning team isn't decided because 1st board may win 2nd may and 3rd may draw or all may or anything like that in a different order and since the last boards are the weakest there games mostly have just a lopsided result so to speak. As it stands I can choose between 3rd-5th board and won't matter who the next to team members will be. Before raised my hand in excitement choosing to be 3rd I thought about what he said and I'm now considering picking to play 5th board. I'd love to know you guy's thoughts on this thank.
