Is it considered rude to just disconnect, instead of resigning, when losing?

I gotta say, the second video was funny.

Carlsen did resign, before he got checkmate. And we're talking about online chess, not OTB.

Yes

Oh damn! Infinity War's second trailer is out!

Of course not! It's common courtesy. It's like leaving a note to your fiance before you leave him/her at the altar.

If you are losing, just resign already. Save me the 59 seconds. Please.

Other people stay connected, and just wait the time out to the end of the game. That can be 5 minutes, watching to see if they are gonna make a move. Sheeesh.
That is a major puppy doo doo.

Finally, a clear supporter.

I have never disconnected just because I was losing; I have never disconnected on purpose at all

Wow! Really? You deserve a medal for that!

porsche_rs_fan

I think it's rude. Play the game to the end and see what the result is.

Narky?

Is that what chess people are like? Sheesh.

I think it is bad form to simply let the click run rather than resign. On speed games it denies the winner from playing another game.
coolchess_guy

yes. it is annoying . but i lose time mainly bcz of connection

Played three games in a row where different opponents disconnected - no trolling/conversation from me, looked at their profiles and they had thousands of games. Don’t give me the emotion nonsense or off to research, it’s just poor manners and immaturity - just grow some and resign or play the game out - finish what you started. Chess.com should deduct serious ranking points for disconnection so that they can play at a level where they always win because that seems to be their only concern....

In an OTB game that you're considering resigning, would you say "brb just going to the washroom lol!" and then call a taxi?

csw40
I think there are a lot of players with some serious Uber credit...

Oh yes this really bugs me out.
Intentionally disconnecting instead of just resigning is ego at its highest.  They're just too entrenched in their position to accept defeat, its a clear indicator of how high they think of themselves and their unwillingness to accept that they're in a losing position. Its terrible etiquette and bad sportsmanship.

snugzilla

bad losers for sure

Honestly, it’s kinda smart. It gives you one last hope that they may resign while waiting for the time to run down. Have never done it before but have been a victim and it is very tempting to resign
