Yes
Is it considered rude to just disconnect, instead of resigning, when losing?

Of course not! It's common courtesy. It's like leaving a note to your fiance before you leave him/her at the altar.
If you are losing, just resign already. Save me the 59 seconds. Please.
Other people stay connected, and just wait the time out to the end of the game. That can be 5 minutes, watching to see if they are gonna make a move. Sheeesh.
That is a major puppy doo doo.

Finally, a clear supporter.

I have never disconnected just because I was losing; I have never disconnected on purpose at all
Wow! Really? You deserve a medal for that!

Narky?
Is that what chess people are like? Sheesh.

In an OTB game that you're considering resigning, would you say "brb just going to the washroom lol!" and then call a taxi?

Oh yes this really bugs me out.
Intentionally disconnecting instead of just resigning is ego at its highest. They're just too entrenched in their position to accept defeat, its a clear indicator of how high they think of themselves and their unwillingness to accept that they're in a losing position. Its terrible etiquette and bad sportsmanship.
I gotta say, the second video was funny.
Carlsen did resign, before he got checkmate. And we're talking about online chess, not OTB.
