Is it really that bad to play chess computers?

I guess I am alone when I say I really don’t care about the occasional cheater.

In all the games I have played here I have actually never even suspected anyone of cheating. Once recently I was refunded point’s for. a daily game, but I don’t even know which and I don’t care.

I play to improve for otb chess. The occasional cheater makes zero difference to me.

Yes

@toddbryant - Spielmann wrote "play the opening like a book, the middle game like a magician, and the endgame like a machine" and I agree. Bots can help you practice and memorize your book lines through repetition, as I wrote above. You can play seven moves of theory, quit, then practice them again." Also, bots play perfect endgames, so they are great to practice against there.

Middle games? Not so much.

I think playing against a computer has its pros and cons.

ChessDragon945
it can certainly be frustrating

not at all. it can help when studying a new opening or if you’re scared of losing rating. good for offline times also

Play against computer is good to improve!

ChessDragon945

Playing against isn’t really a bad thing, especially when they have difficulty settings (250, 500, etc). It gives you a chance to get a feel for the pieces, or a new opening, or something like that.

i agree with ubik42

DuskPikachu

It isn't that bad honestly.

Computers play better when you're winning and worse when you're losing which can help improve.

They can also help you improve your openings and tactics.

linorder

Yes unless it's Nelson.
