I think it depends on whether that chess play is coupled with social interaction. A lack of social cohesion is said to result in depression, though it isn't conclusive.

Yet manavendra does not disclose to these ladies in waiting, that "winning" a game of chess may have to occur for their fortunes to be realized.  I am a feminist, who happens to be a man, and I think that Germaine Greer would agree with me that compatabilty does not consist in only a woman having ' the right equipment'. Speaking personally, and I may be wrong, I require my compatible woman to be assertive, trustworthy and not expect that I am in the relationship solely to look after her wishes and desires. I have human rights too, and if I respect her human rights, I expect her to do as she is done by. I expect her to work on the relationship with me, not expect me to chase her, rush her off her feet and conquer her. Queens like these are thin on the ground.
