Is it unethical to not offer a rematch after winning a game?

Never offered a rematch win or lose, and rarely accept one, mostly because i like to take a break between games, kinda to reset, and approach the next game with a fresh perspective.  Usually type in "need a break, gg thank you for the game"(if they ask for a rematch).  Seems most of the time people are ok with that.

TeraHammer

Oh my! Then chess would be like heroine... you must keep doing it forever and ever...

except when people draw. :-D

Tigre_75

There is no ethical obligation for anyone to keep playing if they don't want to. The great thing about this site is if one player is tired of playing there is always another available to challenge.

no never ever wver humbugry

Who cares what people do. Think whatever you like.

Martin will raise the cost of your drugs if you don't give him a rematch, but it's not about ethics.

jonnin

Unethical is kicking your opponent in the knee while its his turn, or going to the can to check your phone's chess program for a move.

Offering a rematch or saying "good game" are manners, not ethics.

Agreed. Of course, this agreement implies the understanding that starting threads to complain about non-acceptance of rematches exemplifies bad manners. Showing respect to Caissa necessitates that blunderfests are not called "good" and repeating awful chess with the same patzer game after game is anathema.

Thanking an opponent for the game is always appropriate. Rematches against opponents that raise one another's level of play are always appropriate.

Psimonchess

If I win a game and have time always offer a rematch, because for me it's a good manner and I expect the same of my opponent. It is very frustrating when you lose a game you had won and your opponent flees to play with another. When that happens I start to play very bad chess.

EdgaTroll

That's not why you play bad chess.

thegreat_patzer

All the sudden there are rematch threads EVERYWHERE...

but just like chess, does having a rematch of a thread, change any of the FACTS- or is it just a pointless argument....

Osfan37

Playing 2 games at least standard is very time consuming, many people don't have time to play 2 games back to back.

you are moving the peices Psimon.  if your emotional effected- to use the phrase - you "on tilt"- It would be much better to calm down, go over some training, take a break and get back into a competitive spirit.

but you can't blame the opponent for YOUR attitude.

if you do,you will struggle greatly in this game.  the true struggle is against your tendency to make bad moves.

Psimonchess

Probably you are right thegreat_patzer, is only my fault don't make a break in this kind of situation, but sadly until now I failied to fix that bad attitud

His regular multiple invitations, following your refusal, at every subsequent occasion, are very ethical for sure.
