Is it wrong to try and play against players you know you can beat?

Or does it show you have self-awareness in that you know what your limits are?

I personally think that it’s fine as long as your not using it as a grinder for elo

I am ruthless and will beat a 7 year old of it means I can play

I played a couple of the beginners, just to check them out, unrated games. The thing is, I only played at around 70%. Sure, yeah, they were easy to beat, but it took me a while and it really made me think about what do I need to be studying here.

What I've learned is that I am an erratic player. Sometimes I just clean the board, 1750 rating one game, a few 1550s, most of the time I bounce between playing at 800 up to 12 or 13 maybe.

It will make the person you can defeat easily a lot more stronger

And your strength will increase slowly....that is what my England coach says

My brother who can easily defeat me sometimes acknowledges my abilities so yeah it must be fine, you help them improve afterall

If you do it to try to prove that you are a better person than them or to win an internet debate, then yes there is something wrong, but it is with you.

Yeah, exactly

You can also play with higher rated several time (for them your lower rated) and you ask them rematch again and again (they will accept because they want points) then you lose rating but you improve

After few days you will win with them

That's what will happen if you play will people who you can defeat easily

No. It is a learning opportunity for them.

But if you would only play weaker players, I think it would be bad for your own progress.

Also, if there is a big rating gap, there will be no rating gain for the winner if the higher rated player wins. The gap will need to be quite large, but I have played a game or two where I would have got +0 for the win (these games were against friends).
