Is my thought process right?

Hi, I want to know if my thought process is right. When I have to decide a move, I:

-try to understand my opponent's plan, search for checks, hanging pieces, tactics, mate threats, and if my opponent's can make threats I find a way to defend from them

-if I don't see any threats from my opponent, I search for threats from me, tactics, mates, material gaining etc... If I don't see any, I try to improve my position.

After that, I calculate and check if my opponent's can make threats future threats and if the moves I chose it's really good , and if I selected multiple candidates moves I think and I try to find what's the best.

It's my thought process right?

I recommend two thought processes. One for when you are on your time and one for when your opponent is on the move. While my opponent is thinking I evaluate strengths and weaknesses and pawns structures and think about long term plans and goals. I think that most of the time if you don't have a plan and if you just think move to move your moves become disjointed and you tend to drift.

Once you determine your opponents threats don't always defend them. And don't always use the first defense you see. Look for counter attacks and ways to make his threats backfire.
