Is regular timeout necessary?

I have won (and lost) many games because of timeout. Do you think there should be an overtime setting or maybe an endless option for a new game?

If you're talking about daily games, there's an option to turn off claim win when your opponent runs out of time.

Though from the looks of it, you only play live so I guess my answer is of no help to you.

An endless option?  Overtime?

You agreed to a certain time limit.

And yes, it kinda is necessary. Without a time limit the person who is losing could just stop moving and the game would never end.

I put my opponents on timeout when they misbehave because I can't exactly reach through my monitor to swat them.

No, I do not think there should be an overtime - unless the score is tied.

Read up on the history of chess and you'll see why time clocks were implemented. They are very necessary if you want to have a very good idea of when games should end.

Why don't you just define your own time controls in live chess?

Otherwise, what's the point of playing live chess? Just stick to correspondence.
