Hello guys and girls ,
Here is my question: I am rated around 850 and I realise that most of the time if I play real people online (here on chess.com), I win probably around half of the time (meaning when I play guys who are rated between around 800 and 900). Just recently I played a 800 rated guy and it was a real battle, I was once in a bad position but somehow edged out a win. So....I just played against Coach Monica here who is a 1600 rated chess bot here and it was not that hard. I tried not to blunder, still made one or two mistakes but she did not ruthlessly capitalise on them.
I also beat 1400 rated chess bot Catspurrov 3 or 4 times in a row recently but when I play a 900 rated guy here right afterwards, I have to struggle. It's not like I can blunder against Catspurrov but a 900 rated real player feels stronger to me.
So my question would be how accurate the rating of the chess bots here on this website is?
Thanks,
Bernd
Engines are designed to play the best moves they can. The bots are using that engine, with various settings, to mimic play at lower rating levels but that's hard to get right.
Bots at lower levels are overrated in most cases. The higher level ones are probably closer to true.
