Some players when they loose... they say thay had a bad luck game today... what do you think?

When I make a move, I usually have a reason to do so. The reason may proove to be faulty. But the move may still be good for a different reason. That's luck.

If there where no luck involved when playing chess, a stronger player whould always perform better against a weaker player. Because there is some luck involved, a stronger player often performs better against a weaker player

No, there's no such thing as a bad luck game. Either you give it your best or you don't....it's as simple as that. In my book though, if you give a game your best, even if you don't win....you ARE a winner!

There probably are many variables related to Chess performance.

Does luck mean random factors, or merely unseen ones? There are many of the latter and none of the former in chess.

I think there is luck. Who gets white, who gets black.

I have felt lucky when an opponent failed to take advantage of a tactical advantage. And sometimes, I've had situations where my pieces happen to be placed in such a way as to prevent my opponent from making certain moves. Some of that is tactics, and some of it is just luck that his attack is limited by my position. Or at least it seems like that to me.

gobbel

There is luck in chess in every move unless you know exactly what each move results in, which you don't.

by and large chess is a war of brains but at times luck also plays- at a crucial point where u have to choose 2 or 3 lines ,the number of possibilities in each are too many to objectively assess, u choose the right one if u are lucky , the other that flops if u r unlucky

"White's advantage" is more founded in psychology than fact. You're underperforming because you think you have a disadvantage, but the disadvantage is so small it doesn't directly affect your result.

When I am Black, I lose because I am Black.  When I am White, I lose because I am Tierney.

LeeLi

No luck in chess

That reference you gave shows that White statistically wins more, around 54-56%, than Black. That would seem to suggest that practically, at least, white has the advantage.

There is debate about whether or not a perfectly played game will result in a draw, but it is theoretical. It seems clear that White has the initiative, and I would think, if s/he plays perfectly, should always maintain that initiative. Thanks for the reference.

one thing that is great about the game of chess and that is there is no luck at chess. just good moves or bad ones.

sayana

tes u r right.

dragon27

yeah! i do agree... they say they have had a game with bad luck so it was a bad game for them..thay had some bad luck.

tigergutt

nothing is bad luck is just lack of attention. how can it be luck if the other player noticed more and was more consentrated on the game?:)

Mr_Jasonator

Not really, I think other factors such makes you lose. For example, there is an endgame and you have a bit of an advantage. You are playing very consistent but you are very stressed after a long game. One move, OOP, you blundered!!!. That is what many people think including me that I got bad luck. But I have come into a realization, that you have played well for 60 moves but you just blundered one. The thing is that everyone makes mistakes. No matter what, you will learn from your mistakes and improve. It’s as simple as that. The only bad luck you can get in chess is that someone in your elo is actually a pro player undercover like Hikaru XD
