In that position, if white ran out of time, then black has insufficient material to create a mate. Neither player could win, then, and a draw is the only logical result.
Is this actually a draw, due to insuficient material.

dude just drive out the king with the knight and ur king before andvance it too far, otherwise it will be stalemate
wait nvm i thought the kings were switched... *facepalm*
yes in blitz if the losing side has no mating material and the winning side runs out of time, then it is a draw

Here is the original game. It looks like white ran out of time.

I find the way that both players handled this scenario completely mind boggling.
- White (OP) didn't know the rules - this one is understandable, the only point that I can say this about.
- White was completely unaware that his time ran out.
- White somehow failed to work out that it was his time that had run out, despite the very clear implication of the automated message.
To sum up those last two points, White was annoyed/surprised that he didn't get the win when he ran out of time. A situation that he incorrectly believed should have lost him the game. Wow, I fail at the first hurdle when it comes to understanding any of this - I can't ever imagine not being aware of how much time I have left, let alone the rest of this insanity/stupidity.
- Black, knowing that he was about to win on time, voluntarily exchanged Queens four moves before the above position.
That is nothing short of unbelievable stupidity. Not only is trading Queens very obviously the wrong plan in this position, but in this special case he intentionally gave White a draw in a game that was well over - Black had won on time (this game had no incraement).
WTF... I don't get it. I don't get any of it. Not one bit.
WOW

No shit Sherlock. Where have you been?
You got a real chip on your shoulder.

You are spending a lot of time on this. Just here to insult people?

Jim: Nothing wrong with being a troll, but this dude is causing pain on a few threads.
I appreciate a funny troll, but this guy is not. Where is he causing pain?

Someone must find social interaction even more mind boggling than any position on the board....
Where there's a pawn there's hope :)

thanks you those who explained what happened. I don't remember if I ran out of time. it could be the case. Thanks!

The rule in Chess.com's Live Chess is for either opponent to have the insufficient material. So you may have all your pieces and your opponent has a King. If you time out, the Insufficient Material Draw gets called. EDIT: If your opponent times out with insufficient material, it's a game loss, you win. If you time out and your opponent has insufficient material, it's a draw. The opponent doesn't get a win because even if they had all the time in the world, they couldn't have completed a checkmate. My fault for not explaining it properly!
At least this is what chess says but I was so exited I was going to win and suddenly I got a draw.
If I move the pawn...I can progress it and get a queen. Am I missing anything?
