hi every one,I have got a question to ask about a program in my pc.the program is about chess and learning playing, opening, endgame and every thing you can think about chess.this program has a refrence for openings and I use it in daily games to learn and play.is this a kind of cheating??I mean I use the program as a refrence for opening not a cheat engine. shouldn't I use it??

You CAN use it if you're training with the computer but don't use it when playing a ranked match with others

Don't lie, I'm pretty sure you're using your engine to check your moves before submitting them.

There should be small arrows next to the board that lets you resize by dragging. Also there should be a button at the top or side that lets you go back to the old version.

i DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT IS SO DIFFICULT FOR SOME PLAYERS TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THERE ARE PLAYERS WHO DO NOT USE THE CHESS ENGINES FOR GAME-IN-PROGRESS ANALYSIS.

WINNING BY RECEIVING ADVICE VIA A COMPUTER CHESS PROGRAM MERELY INDICATES A FAILURE OF PERSPECTIVE BY THE CHESS PLAYER; I.E. OUR CHESS RATINGS ARE NOT THE END ALL AND BE ALL OF OUR LIVES, NO ONE WINS EVERY GAME, AND EVERY PLAYER'S GAME HAS ITS UP AND DOWNS. WHAT SATISFACTION CAN THERE BE IN KNOWING YOU OUT-CHEATED SOMEONE?

OPENINGS REFERENCES ARE LEGAL DAY PLUS MOVE GAMES AS SOMEONE NOTED ABOVE. SPECIFIC POSITION ANALYSIS USING CHESS ENGINES AND BOOKS DURING THE GAME BEYOND THAT IS CHEATING.

Probably the same reason it is so hard for people to not use all caps when posting, which is the equivalent to shouting at people.

Did you admit to cheating?

thegreat_patzer

well, this is problematic.

yes, you should not use a program to give you any kind of answer espacially in "live"chess.  but there also is no talk about 'cheating' on the open forums

this will surely be locked!

Your last sentence is not 100% correct!  Books can be used throughout the game.  Nothing says it has to be an opening book!  Yes, Tablebases are illegal, but if you just "happened" to get the exact position in an endgame book, say the big black one by the two Germans, it's a printed book, it's Legal for Correspondence chess!  Also, let's say you are 34 moves in and you just so happened to have the exact position, whether thru the same moves or not, as a position that Karpov won in a Karpov - Kasparov game, and you have White, there is nothing wrong with looking at that Karpov - Kasparov game and playing the same move that Karpov played on move 35, or if annotations indicate otherwise, playing the alternative 35th move!

Also, the fact that people cheat is all the more reason why I say that internet chess ratings, whether Blitz, Correspondence, Standard, you name it, is hogwash and means nothing.

Your over the board standard time control rating is the one that matters and no other!

Take the following - both are hypothetical and do not represent any real person:

Player A:

Over the board rating (FIDE, USCF, etc, doesn't matter):  2154
ICC Blitz:  1785
Chess.com Blitz:  1903
Chess.com Correspondence:  2013

Player B:

Over the Board Rating:  1653
ICC Blitz:  2213
Chess.com Blitz:  2341
Chess.com Correspondence:  2419

Player A is stronger than Player B!  PERIOD!

I don't mean to be rude  but this has to stop.

this is a forbidden topic and it seems to me Obvious why it is.  if you cannot fathom why, for goodness sake at least yell at me through pm and I will try to explain why I think it does no good for our community to encourage big discussions on the topic.
