SF is no 1 top engine for more than 3 years consecutively, and no one think it is possible to beat SF with one pawn handicap!
SF missed simple tactics, and played 8.... Qh4+, expecting that Leela wont play 9. g3 ! ( 9.... Qe4 + 10. Kf2 Qxh1 ). However , queen is trapped after Qxh1 and black lose a piece to save her queen. So aggressive pruning at root exclude 9. g3 in low depth. (But SF see that 8.... Qh4+ is bad in high depth, ? about 1 billion nodes) ,
