Ivanchuk - How is this possible at the top level?

surely if you were going to lose on time you would atleast try to make time control regardless of how poor your moves are. if you make it to time control you may be lucky enough to have a playable position still but if you don't, you lose. unless he thinks there is a greater chance that he would see some tactic his opponent missed than the chance of having a playable position at time control.

nah better lose on time then look stupid with stupid moves, Ivanchuk knows what he is doing just look at the Carlsen game. I made best moves and my position already looks resignable after 15 moves.

You don't understand the guy...Ivanchuk does not play for the win - he is there to play the best moves. And if he is not sure what is the best move he simply does not move anything...
