Just announced, the former Mad Men star Jesse Plemons will be portraying Magnus Carlsen in "Make Mine Magnus" an "interpretive biography" of the Norwegian World Chess Champion. With Naveen Andrews as Viswanathan Anand and a special appearance by Eric Bogosian as Garry Kasparov. To be filmed in and around Oslo this summer.

Rumor has it that they are saucing up the story a bit, and including a terrorist plot foiled by a small group of grandmasters led by Carlsen, and a lot more good-looking women than ever usually come near a chess board.

Surely this is a joke.

No, it's true. Joel Benjamin and Nick DeFirmian have cameos as computer hackers.

How Do You Know

maskedbishop

I'm sorry but I can't reveal that. You know how it is with films.

Bogosian is out. Talks are with Ben Affleck to play Gazza, "in a reduced, more cameo-styled role." Meanwhile, prelimary set building has begun in Oslo and Sam Firstenberg has been coaxed out of retirement to direct.

Jennifer Lawrence signed on to play Jennifer Shahade. It just gets better and better!

But the rumors of Natalie Portman to play Judit Polgar are still just that, rumors. Apparently the director wants to heavily feature women chess players to maximize interest.

A fictional character named Dire Jankovich has been created as the antagonist...a scheming ex-chess player who never became WC and now wants to sabotage the WC match. No news yet on casting for this key role, although Leo DiCaprio was approached, and "seemed interested, if he could fit it in."

Spectacularly inventive troll sir.  Haywood would be proud.

You have to admit, it sounds a heck of a lot more interesting than the upcoming Fischer movie with Tobey Maguire.

This whole thread is a lie. I can prove it but I'm sorry, you know how it is with films.
