Then again in my last tournament which was 6 rounds i may have played too ambitiously because i won 4 matches (3 with white and 1 with KID) and lost the other two as black with the classical Ruy and the giucco
Karpov's attitude as black was to play for a draw?

But is that really how to play chess?
He was the chess champion of the world from 1975-86 and from 1993-99.
Do you believe in results?

Fixed.

Yes he was the world champion but by what outlook? In his mind he said " okay i will always try for a win as white and for black ill just draw and stay solid"
Does anyone share this motif? I mean this isnt really how a 17 year old junior shoots through the rankings either

The World Chess Championship is won by winning matches. Matches are won by accumulating a plus score (more wins than losses). Winning as White and drawing as Black will ensure a plus score.
If you mean: "Karpov isn't a gladiator", then yes, I agree. He's no Sparticus.

Karpov's style was must win with white and just draw with black. Hence the Caro kann and petroffs. But is that really how to play chess? to just play safetly as black without ambition with a passive but solid caro kann? How can anyone shoot through the rankings like that? Karpov used to be my favorate player until i discovered this. Caro kann used to be my favorate opening until i discovered this.
This statement is just wrong. Jan Timman, in The Art of Chess Analysis, argued that Karpov's will to win was second to none.
When Karpov was Black, he strove for relatively quiet positions and then won. In that respect, Carlsen is somewhat reminiscent of Karpov in his prime. Except that Carlsen is even more impressive.
Karpov's favorite response to 1.e4 was 1...e5, leading to the Spanish, for most of his career. He played the Sicilian as well as the Caro-Kann. But even his Caro-Kanns were played for the win.
In matches, he strove to draw as Black and win as white. But that was against the very best players in the world. And he himself argued that playing for a draw as Black was a very advanced skill.
Perhaps you would enjoy going through Anatoly Karpov's Best Games of Chessto gain another perspective on the twelfth world champion.
