A LITTLE BIRDIE JUST TOLD ME: Kasparov vs Deep Blue III is not entirely impossible...

IBM still owns the original chip from the '97 DB memory. An acquaintance of mine works at IBM headquarters and tells me a talk was born between some employees to possibly begin negotiations with Garry.

Two powerful questions are in the air at the time of this writing, How interested is he in a third and final match, the completion of the trilogy because DB and K are 1-1.

And secondly, How interested is the world in seeing this match?

There would be no interest in playing a modern engine, but Deep Blue might be interesting.  Or another strong GM might take on that challenge if Garry Kasparov turns it down.

Kasparov is older and hasn't been playing competitively for a while, so he's definitely not at his best any more.

Pashak1989

No. It was interesting 20 years ago.

Now this would be absolutely pointless.

All of you, say what you will but I'm actually excited for this. I hope it happens. The return of Deep Blue, twenty years later, same exact program as '97. Garry's revenge ? Or another humiliating defeat

I shall keep u posted as I received New information.

I wouldn't be particularly "excited" for this match to happen, but I would definitely like for him to except! :D

Garry has gotten older, and he is likely to lose, but it would still be interesting

Memory chip? Wouldn't you want a processor? And a program?  Wouldn't you basically need the whole 20 year old machine?

Maybe computers worked differently back in the old days.

I think there's a bug eating away at Garry's brain ever he announced his retirement knowing he couldn't put the silicon beast away like a true Russian champion. So I hope he accepts, even if it's a short 4-game match.

Kasparov will crush Deep Blue like he did last time!

fuzzbug

What would be the point, when Kasparov can be beaten by an engine that you and I can download for free? Why go to all the trouble?
Why wouldn't you have the world's current best, Carlsen, play DB III?

An improved super comp created by IBM would crush Carlsen. You mean C versus the the DB of '97? Because Carlsen would crush that version.

If there's enough money, he will show himself making handstand to bridge on the scenary.

I feel the sam way. If they offer him enough money he will accept.

20 years ago I suggested that Garry Kasparov and Deep Blue break the tie with a game of darts.

301 or Cricket?
Let Deep Blue pick.

But did Garry listen?

Nooooooooooooooooo.

DB vs Stockfish would be more interesting. 6-0 for the fish IMO.

You're joking, an IBM creation of a modern super computer would exterminate every existing program into oblivion.

It's possible that the little birdie has been eating fermented berries... Laughing

I highly doubt IBM would even entertain this absolutely ridiculous thought after Kasparov accused them of cheating and insulted them.

Mr. Feng Hsu, designer and owner of the '97 DB Chip would host the match independently of IBM. After 20 years bygones are bygones.

Hsu also has the means to make it excessively more powerful. If ever he wished.
