Your "kid" is beating something rated 800 points higher than the world champion.  And you arent sure if he should be playing in tournaments?

Your "kid" is beating something rated 800 points higher than the world champion.  And you arent sure if he should be playing in tournaments?

He said he wasn't sure if he HAD to.  He can't afford to take said kid to tournaments.

You take a loan out then.  The "kid" is playing 800 pints higher than the world champion.

OP,

Claiming that a nine year old beat Stockfish is like claiming that he outran, not Usain Bolt, but Usain Bolt on a motorcycle.  It means something is wrong with the computer, bottom line.  HOWEVER, your kid may still be quite good at chess.  There are clubs around in Wisconsin (and certainly in Chicago).  There are master strength players around who will be happy to play your son some games for free.  IF he can beat Stockfish, then he should crush them, over and over, no mercy.  That's unlikely BUT if he can even do well against them they will say so.  They will offer to teach him, etc.  Google for the nearest club.  It's easy to do.

He didn't specify WHAT stockfish he beat.  I can wreck stockfish at a sufficiently low depth and reliably.  

A lot of people can beat SF depth 1.
