Kingscrusher's Biography

I have become obsessed with this wonderful game. So much so that I fall asleep watching chess youtube videos. I find Kingscrusher to be the greatest youtube chess commentator. I think Kingscrusher is to youtube chess what Picasso was to art. I was also surprised to find out that he was not a GM, he has one of the lower titles (CM, FM, IM or something), but not a GM. I was amazed that a man with such passion for the game never made it. He does not have a wikipedia article. I was wondering if anybody knows where to find his full biography. I'm very curious as to what happened in his career that prevented him from being one of the greatest players ever, or even just a GM.

To become a grandmaster you must have total mastery of the game and you must consistently be able to come up with great ideas and play extremely accurately. I just think you disrespect all the players under GM by claiming just about anybody can do it with enough work. Kingscrusher is engaging and entertaining in communicating his passion for the game but he clearly falls short, probably in many areas and I'm sure he would tell you the same. GMs are peculiarly special.

This is a great point, but to me Kingscrusher seems extremely talented, and knowledge, so I wonder if he feels let down.

To be fair thought, being a GM is not a prerequisite to be a good teacher in chess. Kinda like in basketball. Allen Iverson is a better basketball player than Phil Jackson, but Phil Jackson is a better coach. I can also say being a good teacher does not mean you have the talent to be a grandmaster.  Kingcrusher is helpful for novice player to club level. For novice, beginner  to club level, kingcrusher is one of the best.

Other good commentators for novice to club level is matojelic, IM john Bartholomew and Yasser Seirawan. There are many more that I did not mention.

Novice to club level? I'm pretty sure Kingscrusher is where most GM's get their information.

Correlation or causation, hmm...

Do you think that Kingscrusher is boring or something? Please don't post these ambiguous answers, sometimes its hard to understand what is being said. I do appreciate clarity on my threads.

Actually I saw in one video, Kingscrusher said that Nakamura is a fan of his work.

Actually I saw in one video, Kingscrusher said that Nakamura is a fan of his work.

"Greetings to everyone once again! Very seldom do I post multiple blogs on a given day, but I simply could not help myself. It seems like almost every day I go on YouTube and watch a wide variety of videos although they most pertain to hockey, Vancouver, mountain climbing or tourist destinations. Every so often someone will point out one of the hundreds of videos of me playing chess on ICC/Playchess or from the World Blitz Championship. However, I was very pleasantly surprised to come across a video tonight by Kingcrusher entitled “How Nakamura won the ICC Open June 3-5 2011” It is great to see the many chess fans out there who make educational videos and post them on the internet for people to watch free of charge. In case anyone is interested, here is the link to Kingcrusher’s YouTube page."

This is word by word what Nakamura has said.
He's a fan of how Kingscrusher makes no money out of his videos, there is no mention whatsoever that he watches the videos so that he gest anything out of them.

Just to say in regard to Kingscrusher's title the very best players don't necessarily make the very best teachers, and vice versa. I went to chess classes in the 70s that were taught by IM Bob Wade, a very strong player by the standards of us mere mortals with a lot to give but by no means a GM. He was an excellent teacher and I learned a lot from him. No surprise that he was also, a little before then, one of Fischer's seconds.

His wiki is fantastic! Did you write this?

https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Kingscrusher

"The highlight of his career was his first (and hopefully last) public appearance in the awesome show called "Britain's Got Talent" in 2009. His chess titles include FIDE Candidate Master (CM) & British Regional Master, which are genuine titles actually recognized by FIDE and not totally made up by Mamma Trish to impress her devoted fanboys. When he is not busy sticking fingers in various parts of her body, Kingscrusher maintains a popular Youtube channel on which he posts child pornography cleverly disguised as mediocre chess videos in order to avoid Youtube's TOS."

Hahahah I've never seen that before. Amazing.

I like Kingscrusher. I enjoyed his videos on Fischer leading up to the world championship. I also like John Bartholomew, who is a great teacher. My favorite chess youtuber is Jerry though. He's not the strongest master making vids, but I think he has the best personality. His videos are very instructive when it comes to positional stuff, especially for beginner/intermediate. I rarely miss a chessnetwork video and I've learned a lot from him since I started studying chess in late 2013.

ed1975

I like chessnetwork too

Please don't promote other youtube channels on the thread. This thread is about Kingscrusher, I wish to honour him, and would prefer if we didn't talk about the achievements of others.

I think it would be cool if we could all take turns to post one thing we like about Kingscrusher.

How about no.
